The Ionic Air Purifier Blog & The Stock Market – What Do They Have In Common?

Something not commonly noticed and commented upon on this blog happened today, 16 Mar 2009. On the Korean Stock Exchange, two stocks spiked up more than 5% at the opening bell. What do the surging share prices of Seung Chang Airtek Co Ltd and Clean Air & Science Ltd have to do with this blog?

Air purifiers. The two Korean companies sell them by the thousands come springtime. Why spring? Isn’t spring the season of fresh air, flowers and birds?

Yes, but springtime from March to May in North Asia also heralds the oncoming infamous yellow dust storm from the Gobi Desert in Mongolia. Sweeping southwards, it envelopes the Korean Peninsula and Japan and is even believed to extend its reaches all the way to the west coast of North America!

Wikipedia has a great pix of the ominous pall of yellow dust as it spreads outwards from Mongolia towards Korea and Japan in the east.

Dust continued to obscure the Yellow Sea and Sea of Japan in this SeaWiFS image of the area obtained on March 21, 2001.

Air purifiers made by Seung Chang Airtek and Clean Air & Science literally fly off the shelves of stores stocking them. As the Mongolian desert regions are having their worst drought in 50 years, many panicky Koreans are fearing the worst yellow dust storm in their lifetime.

We are not at all surprised by this all too human last minute panic buying. We witnessed this firsthand during the Asian SARS crisis in 2003 (see our 28 Sep 2008 post – Plasmacluster ions the one only reliable ionic air purifier against bird flu pandemic fears)

Interestingly, this little news snippet led us to the website of Seung Chang Airtek which claims that their air purifier is effective against both the SARS and bird flu viruses.

It also serves as a good reminder for us to speed up our research on ionic air purifiers, lest the feared bird flu pandemic turns into reality.

On a different tack, stock traders and enthusiasts among our readers and subscribers may wish to note that we will soon be launching a new blog devoted to trading. As with this blog, the stock trading blog seeks to be different but in a very positive way.

  • Hi Alice,

    Good of you to share!

Feel free to let us know the exact model that you are using. We have no preference or bias for any particular air purification technology or brand. We simply want to know as much as we can so that all our readers can benefit from actual user experiences.

True HEPA air purifier technology forms the basis of all reliable traditional air purification systems. It is for this reason that many ionic air purifiers include a True HEPA filter to enhance the overall effectiveness of their purification system. We believe the main difference is that ionic purification technologies make the bold claim of destroying airborne contaminants like viruses and bacteria as opposed to merely filtering them out of the air.

Do update us, right through spring and beyond, and whenever you discover new benefits from your new HEPA air purifier.

    Thank you!

I love my new HEPA air purifier. I bought it because spring has come early this year in Texas. Now I can sleep through the night without sneezing.
